Victoria ISD is committed to keeping families, staff, and community members informed as the district continues long-range planning for facility needs. During a Special Called Board Facilities Workshop on Thursday, December 4, Superintendent Sheila Collazo and the Board of Trustees reviewed recommendations from the Bond Action Committee, a citizen advisory group made up of parents, staff, business leaders, and community members.
The Bond Action Committee spent the last six months assessing district facilities, reviewing enrollment trends, and evaluating long-term educational priorities. The committee was presented with data and asked to provide input on a potential facilities bond proposal. No action was taken at the December 4 workshop. Instead, trustees reviewed data, asked questions, and discussed the scope of the recommendations.
Thank you to everyone who attended or tuned in to the meeting. The following points summarize the discussion.
The recommendations presented to the Board came directly from the Bond Action Committee, a group of 43 parents, staff, business leaders, and community members from across Victoria. To learn more about the Bond Action Committee, visit https://bit.ly/3GWoJDX.
The recommendations impact 18 campuses and focus on priority needs with a conservative fiscal approach.
Instructional facilities are prioritized, along with identified component needs at schools that require these upgrades or have aging/failing infrastructures. Many district buildings were constructed decades ago and require significant upgrades to meet efficiency and safety standards.
Addressing these needs now is essential to ensure safe, functional, and supportive learning environments for all students.
VISD continues to identify facility challenges that affect the safety, efficiency, and long-term functionality of campuses. As buildings age, maintenance and modernization needs increase. Enrollment changes and innovative learning spaces require strategic planning and community input. The Bond Action Committeeโs work provides a community-driven foundation for these discussions.
The Board of Trustees will continue reviewing the committeeโs recommendations, along with district data, financial considerations, long-term savings, and long-range planning needs. Community meetings are being scheduled to help ensure families receive clear and accurate information about current facility conditions and the districtโs facility needs. The goal is to ensure that the community understands the details of a potential bond proposal and has clear, accurate information every step of the way.
A second Special Called Board Meeting for an additional facilities workshop is scheduled for January 13, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will allow trustees to continue studying the Bond Action Committeeโs work and review updated information in preparation for future discussions.
VISD will continue to provide updates and resources to ensure transparency throughout this process.
